What sets this line

Supply follows population and Normal has the most of it: more people working the same nodes, more of them chasing the same buyer. That pressure is what usually pins this line to the bottom of the board — today it runs 21% under Roleplay and 4% above PvP. That ranking is measured, not asserted: the board is read every morning and these sentences move with it.

What the coin is spent on

Riding first: 100 gold for the opening tier and 1,000 for the top one, mount included. After that it is bags, pushing a profession past its expensive middle, and from December 9 the consumable bill for Barrow Deeps, Hyjal Summit and Onyxia's Lair.

Delivery on Normal

The least complicated of the three. No world PvP to interrupt a hand-off, so face-to-face trades are easy to arrange — though mail still works regardless of who is standing where, and most orders go that way.

Questions about Normal gold

Is Normal gold the same as PvP gold?

The coin is identical, the economy around it is not. Playstyles do not mix in Forever, so Normal and PvP are separate markets with separate supply — which is why the two rates drift apart and change places rather than moving together. Today they sit $0.03 apart.

Does the world change the Normal price?

Not today: $0.82 in the Americas and $0.82 in Europe. If the two economies separate after launch — and they may — this becomes two prices instead of one, and the market page will show it before we write about it.

How much is a thousand gold in dollars?

$820.00 at the Normal rate, which is also the price of the top riding tier. The riding page works through why that number is designed rather than accidental.
