When Forever gold will be cheapest
Not how the economy works in theory — what the number on the board is likely to do, week by week, and which published dates move it. Forecasts are marked as forecasts.
The short version
Buy late rather than early. Supply is at zero on November 4 and climbs every week after; our estimate for the cheapest week of the first six months is the first week of December, right before the raids open on December 9. Today the board reads $0.79 a coin on PvP against $0.85 on the open market.
Dates that move the number
Prices in a fresh world step rather than drift, and the steps are on a published roadmap. The direction column is our forecast; the dates are not.
| Date | What happens | Our expected direction |
|---|---|---|
| Until October 21 | Beta runs at level cap 30; everything on it is deleted at the end | irrelevant — nothing survives |
| Oct 27 – Nov 3 | Name reservation for holders of an upgrade pack | no effect on gold |
| November 4 | Launch. Four zones, nine dungeons, cap 60. No gold exists yet | highest price of the year |
| Mid-November | First characters reach 60; gathering routes fill up | falling |
| November 18 | Two weeks of real trades exist; our board is re-priced off them | falling |
| Early December | Farmers have stock, raids not yet open | our estimate: the floor |
| December 9 | Barrow Deeps, Hyjal Summit and Onyxia's Lair open on one day | rising — consumables |
| Winter 2026 | Hardcore arrives, with a transfer out on death | a new market, priced separately |
| Spring 2027 | Two raids, two dungeons, a legendary questline, PvP refresh | rising in steps |
Roadmap dates from Blizzard's published schedule. The direction column is our reading and nothing more — we publish it so it can be checked against what actually happens, not because we know.
Three forces, and only two of them touch the price
Most coverage of this market confuses how many people trade with what a trade costs. They are different numbers and they move for different reasons.
| Force | What it changes | Effect on the price a buyer pays |
|---|---|---|
| Cost of production how long a coin takes to farm | What a seller must charge to bother | This is the price. Everything Forever did to professions makes production cheaper |
| Number of buyers demand volume | How many trades happen | Close to none. Supply is elastic: when demand falls, farmers farm less rather than sell cheaper |
| Scarcity of gold in the world how much exists at all | Whether a seller has stock to sell | Large at launch, shrinking weekly as the world fills up |
This is why the end of GDKP does not make gold cheaper, although it is widely reported as though it will — it removes buyers, not production cost. The working is here. And it is why the profession changes matter more than any news item: they are the first column. The supply side is here.
Five indicators, all of them public
You do not need our forecast if you watch these. Four are on the market page and update daily.
| Indicator | Where | What a move means |
|---|---|---|
| Cheapest price a coin | market page | The headline number. Today $0.85 |
| Spread between sellers | market page | Today 9×. A narrowing spread means a real market is forming |
| Number of sellers | market page | More sellers means more competition, and it is the first thing to move when a market forms |
| Stated delivery times | market page | Times lengthening means stock is thin, whatever the price says |
| Bot complaints on the official forums | Blizzard forums | The one that breaks the model. Bots collapse production cost and the price with it |
What would make us wrong
A bot wave inside the first month, as happened on Classic Era and the Anniversary realms. Bots never spend what they farm, so production cost collapses and the price goes with it — far below anything on our calendar.
What would not
Fewer buyers. That is the thing everyone expects to move the price after GDKP was ruled out, and it is the thing that moves it least. Watch trade volume shrink and the price per coin stay put.
The part nobody knows
How the auction house is structured. Blizzard has not described it, and a single shared market per playstyle would change flipping margins enormously. Every guide predicting it, ours included, is inferring.
Questions
When will Forever gold be cheapest?
Our estimate is the first week of December, and it is an estimate. By then farmers have had a month at level 60, the December 9 raids have not opened, and nobody is bidding for flasks yet. Every part of that reasoning is visible on the calendar above, so you can disagree with it line by line.
Is launch week a bad time to buy?
It is the worst exchange rate of the year by construction: on November 4 the world contains no gold and wants all of it. Supply climbs every week afterwards.
Why do your numbers change between visits?
The board is re-read on every build, and this market has already moved by more than half in a single day. A price page that stayed still through that would be decoration rather than information.
Will the two worlds ever have different prices?
Possibly. Americas and Europe are separate economies with nothing crossing between them, so nothing forces them to agree. Sellers simply have not separated them yet. If they do, this becomes two boards.
Does a WoW Token arrive later?
Blizzard has ruled out both the Token and paid boosts. That is a statement of intent rather than a law of nature, but nothing announced since contradicts it.
